19th February 2002 In my privileged position as the official on-site chronicler of Peter Jenkins fantastic movie version of The Lord Of The Rings I often get to see the merchandise that the fans drool over, months before it appears in stores. Every now and again, though, I see something which is just that extra bit special and I just have to share it. I received a package today containing the new Arwen action figure. This is Arwen as she appears at the Battle of Holmes' Deep in the next episode, "The Twin Towers". Even before I opened the box I was amazed by the care which has been lavished on a simple toy; the workmanship is absolutely breathtaking. Just take a long look at this incredible picture... And, as if that wasn't enough, there is a lengthy description of Arwen's appearance at the Battle. If you don't want to read any spoilers, look away now... The Fighting Uruk-Hai tm warriors of the Evil Wizard Saruman tm are attacking the ancient fortress of Helm's Deep tm with their diabolical devices including Super Swinging-arm Trebuchet tm, Spring-loaded Battle-Rams tm and Blasting Powder tm. The picture looks bleak when, suddenly, from the line of distant hills a high clear call rings out across the Helm's Deep tm battlefield! The massed ranks of the army of Elvish Fortress Rivendell tm led by the indomitable She-Elf Arwen tm. A cheer goes up from the Rohanian Battle-Riders tm, "Hurray! It's Elvish Archer Arwen tm riding on Mithril Armoured Asfaloth tm. Attack! Attack! Forth Eorlingas tm, ride to the destruction of Evil Wizard Saruman tm!" Discuss this on our Messageboard
I think everyone has been stunned by the first installment of "The Lord Of The Rings" (I know I was) and the action figures to accompany the films have been equally stunning. (Who can forget the fantastic figures of "Blurtz" and "Khamul the Eastender"?) Well John Horde, fresh from a marathon tour of The Betty Ford Clinic and The Priory, has emerged with this picture of the incredible new Arwen figure.

"And again, I have hauled your human fundament from the very fires of Mordor tm. Do you not have any thanks to offer?"

Well, that is brilliant stuff. I'll certainly be buying one when they arrive in my local toyshop.
